Let me just start out by saying that getting the Lap Band has been a life-changing experience! I have struggled with my weight since I was in the 7th grade; typical Jr. High things, with getting called fat in gym class and picked on. Things only got worse when I entered High School and escalated from there. I tried all the weight loss diets, pills, and even tried just flat out not eating. I had short term success with a few of my trials, but put the weight right back on plus some shortly after I quit the diets. My Freshman year of college I got up to 222 pounds, size 18 jeans. I’ll never forget how devastated I was when I got on that scale; tears pouring down my face. That was when I hit rock bottom. A family friend of ours had the Lap Band procedure a little over a year ago and had been having a wonderful turn-out. I started looking into it and gradually eased the conversation onto my parents. The idea didn’t fly so well with them, so I just kept researching more and then a few months later I had them both on my side. My parents didn’t want my weight getting worse and possibly having to worry about health problems later on in life. I called Patty and made up my mind to have surgery the last week of the month. 3 days before surgery my nerves started sneaking up on me, but I just pushed them aside, knowing this would make my life so much better. I got on the airplane on Thursday June 28, 2006 and met the rest of the people in San Antonio. Early the next morning I was on my way to Piedras Negras, MX… and let me tell you – I could hardly control my nervousness! We arrived at the hospital and were introduced to both doctors who answered all of our questions and relieved some worries. After getting all prepped for surgery I went in 2nd. I woke up and remember being so excited that it was over with, and so excited to start my new journey. Since then, almost 5 months later, I am a whole new person. I have lost 42 pounds and still have about 25 to go. I am now comfortable going out with my friends and meeting up with guys without being self conscious about the way I look all the time.
