The lap band has completely changed my life! My name is Renee Conditt and I have lost 30 pounds with the lap band. My situation is a little different because my problem was that I couldn't lose the weight. I wasn't necessarily gaining weight, but I couldn't lose it. It's like my body reached a certain weight and it was set there for life. It wouldn't budge. I tried everything in the diet world and exercise became an obsession, but nothing worked. I even thought that there must be something hormonally wrong with me because I was walking and running about 6 miles a day for about 6 months and I only lost about 10 pounds. As soon as I would try to eat anything other than my diet, I would gain more weight back. I never lost more than 10-15 pounds on my diet roller coaster. I knew it wasn't realistic for me to stay with packaged or diet food and counting points for the rest of my life, so I found out about the lap band while searching the web. I told my husband and he said I will never qualify in the U.S. because I wasn't obese enough. I just wondered what a person in my situation is supposed to do. If your not considered obese enough for surgery, but your overweight for your size considerably from what you want to be, and everything you try fails, then what do you do? So, I e-mailed Patti to find out the answer to that question and she called me the same night and told me that her surgical team could help me. I couldn't believe that finally there was an answer to the "middle man." That's what I always told my husband was that I was right in the middle of the weight game. Patti and everyone that I dealt with was so nice and supportive and helpful. I was skeptical at first about going to Mexico and not knowing the doctors or anyone, but I did my research and decided to do it. I would strongly recommend the doctor and his team. They are so supportive and always there for you when you need them. They are fabulous! I made the best decision ever. I would do the surgery over and over again.
